Client: Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow
Forestry had been identified as one of four cluster priorities for Scotland, with a doubling of timber resource coming on stream. Cluster Navigators reviewed the development of forestry clusters in eight regions (New Zealand, Chile, British Columbia, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Eire, Southern USA) to identify the strategic learning of relevance to Scotland.  This assignment was undertaken in partnership with DANA Ltd, a specialist New Zealand forestry consultancy.
Workshops were held with participants from across Scotland’s forestry cluster. Subsequently, Ifor Ffowcs-Williams was invited to Chair the first annual meeting of Scotland’s forestry cluster.    http://www.forestryscotland.com

Client feedback:
On project completion in 2000 : ‘The Leadership Group is taking excellent shape and I think you will agree that this is the key.  Your input has shaped our work significantly.’

Updated feedback, 2006:   ‘he work enabled us to make more rapid progress than we otherwise would have done.  It helped us to focus on the real issues from an early stage. It gave the emerging cluster a shape and an agenda for action that has proved robust and enduring and served the industry well’
